This is a blog about videogames.
Newsweek’s N’Gai Croal has discussed the hardcasual gamer on his blog Level Up as the gamer who wants the hardcore experience - the graphics, story, and production values which go almost entirely into gore-heavy epics - to be married with the new casual paradigm - where we can throw a game in for half an hour and get an entirely satistfying experience.
For Chris Plante and Sam Ryan, two screenwriters in New York, that sounds pretty cool.
We care about story above all - how narrative can fit into these new models, how narrative defined the old models, and how narrative is being used in the best and the worst of games being made today.

June 6, 2008 Lately I’ve run across the term “hardcasual” or “hard-casual” to mean a game that appeals to a gamer’s sensibilities (rich and original game-play, not just another match-3 or time management clone) but offers the accessibility and limited commitment of a casual game.
